“I was born in and grew up in Mufakose Harare. My father came by train as a young man from Malawi to look for work in then Southern Rhodesia. Growing up in Zimbabwe, I never had a chance to visit Malawi and I was also ashamed of those Malawian roots as people used to look down on us. I want to be both Zimbabwean and Malawian. As I grew up in Zimbabwe and I visit Malawi sometimes, I want to be both.In terms of language, I understand some Chichewa words but cannot speak as it is difficult for me. When people are speaking, I can understand the conversation. To others who have a parent from Malawi, I encourage them to visit and look for their relatives.”
