“I was born in Gokwe but grew up in Sanyati, then came to Harare, then Zvishavane and Beitbridge. My mother was a police officer so we moved a lot. She was a Malawian and was born in 1954. My mother returned to Zimbabwe after my grandmother bought a house in Highfield. Most of the people from Malawi were mostly gardeners, house helps and tailors when were growing up in Highfield. I am a Zimbabwean national although I use my mother’s surname. I would choose my father’s surname given a choice I would choose my father’s surname. I have only ever experienced life in Zimbabwe and have never been to Malawi.”
