“My father was from Chief Ngabu, Chikwawa District, Southern Region of Malawi. He travelled from then Nyasaland in the 1950s and married my mother, a Zimbabwean in 1959 and the two settled in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. I was born and grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe. Under the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Amendment Act No. 12 of 2001, I was rendered stateless. I was forced to renounce the Malawian citizenship to which I had no right. Once I turned 18, I no longer had automatic claim to the Malawian citizenship even though my father was a Malawian. In 2007, I got my Zimbabwean citizenship certificate.”
